Of course you’re not interested in hearing from actual trans people or anything. Because I and others have given you plenty of answers to what you’re asking, and you still insist on playing dumb.

Thirty years ago, a guy attracted to women calling himself a "lesbian" was a crude mysoginist joke. Now it's an article of faith that must not be challenged. How did we get from A to B is a fascinating question, to which the trans activist response ("progress") is evidently unsatisfying to many. |

Exactly, you have the answers, you just don't accept them. And frankly, the endless amount of snide remarks you pepper your 'questions' with tells me your mind has been made up for a very long time and does not give me the impression that you care to make any attempt to learn or understand.
And yeah, generally learning about something means changing your understanding of the world. It did give me a bit of a chuckle that you think this wasn't a thing 30 years ago though, as someone who is close to my own 20th anniversary of coming out as trans. I have zero doubt that middle aged blokes dressing up in women's clothes was a thing 30 years ago. The innovation is that now they go on BBC Midlands to cry about someone rejecting their idea of themselves as women, in the expectation of sympathy and punitive consequences for those who have no interest in playing along. That's the new bit.
Judging from the reactions to the BBC segment, the British public is of the view that the emperor is not simply naked, but that he's naked because he likes to show his junk in public. |

Judging by the BBC versus actual polling of the public it sounds to me like the public is just kind of confused about what trans people are talking about rather than being outright hostile, while the BBC is made up of the same clique of wealthy *******s who have always thought Hitler had some interesting ideas.

Sympathy for the Nazis among the British upper classes was a very real phenomenon between the wars and even during WW2. But to imply that something of that (beyond the odd collector of Nazi memorabilia who wouldn't get anywhere near the BBC) has survived the fall of the Nazi regime and the full scale revelations of what it perpetrated is only possible when you get your history from memes, not books.

yeah no that tweet is obviously heinous but it's not representative at all of people who support trans identity in general, but we've discussed these things before. You need to get out of your bubble. I actually worry about how you're doing.

Marie, your concern is noted.
The only bubble I'm familiar with is the one where fashionable nonsense like trans ideology has the greatest purchase: university campuses. For years, my attitude to all this was not particularly different from that of my peers, meaning I obediently mouthed all the shibboleths. I also have always been well disposed to those trans people I knew IRL, Montreal is one of the most queer friendly cities in the world (except in recent years lesbians have largely dissapeared it seems, wonder what's up with that) and I'm proud of that. Finally, I love reading gender theory and queer writing, from Genet to Andrea Long Chu. My literary taste is rudiculously gay. What intervened is reality. When I see someone who's clearly an incel who has retained every drop of his bottomless resentment of women as he transitioned, I can't pretend that my concern is about his feelings and pronouns. No, my concern is about the women who have to share a gas station toilet with this freak. For me that burst the bubble I was in. After that I started reading up on puberty blockers, what is actually happening in the Canadian prison system and all the rest of it. I still think there are trans people who are great, who are real individuals with their own stories and who don't just recite the ideological script. Last edited by jadis; 12-14-2023 at 03:21 PM. |
