Mercedes Sosa
She was a legend of Latin American music. An interpreter rather than an author, her renditions of popular songs are probably more famous than the originals. Here are some of the most impactful (helps if you understand some Spanish):

Some time ago I was given a Mercedes Sosa cd, Canciones con Fundamento, but I'm afraid I've only played it a couple of times. So I was interested by your first clip,Todo Cambia and the chance to see MS perform. That's a great song you chose; one that slowly reveals its power. I also liked MS's serious approach to her art and her purist style.
Time I gave that cd of mine another listen!

The first one is one of the most heartbreaking, melancholic songs I've ever heard! Never fails to make me emotional. Thanks for giving it a go...
