Georgian Folk Music
Hello everyone.
Georgia is a small country located in Caucasus. It has ancient polyphonic folk music. I'd like to share some of my recordings to you. Dance song: Lyric song on native instrument Chonguri: Joking song: And these are two feast songs, which feature special yodeling like voice, called krimanchuli: Hope you like it :) |
Not bad. :)

Can you give the names of recommended artists to check out instead of just YouTube links?
|
I liked the first one best, but the yodeling ones were pretty cool. Very talented... As a side note, it's good to see Macaulay Culkin back in showbiz. ;)

It sounds like Isis having a shindig....

Never heard any georgian music except The Shin, seems interesting.
I'd like to second OccultHawk's request. I much prefer listening to albums, than to some YT vids. |
There are many videos on yt, which say that they are folk, but actually are just low quality music, written in past 5-15 years.
As for recomendations, the best you can listen are: basiani (ბასიანი), anchiskhati (ანჩისხატი, anchisxati), didgori (დიდგორი), sakhioba (სახიობა), adilei (ადილეი), shavnabada (შავნაბადა). And the videos I've posted are just from small part of western Georgia. There are many different styles depending on part. I can't post links yet, so you'll have to search by those names. There are quite many on yt and soundcloud. Quote:

And by the way, the girl singing in the last video is french :)
