Russian Music
Here are some gems from the gold age of Russian music.
Anyone else a fan of Russian music? ВИА "Верасы" Я у бабушки живу [VIA] of " [Verasy]" I in grandmother live I think the singer's name is Jadwiga. ВИА "Верасы" Любовь моя [VIA] of " [Verasy]" Love is my The melody of Jadwiga's backing vocals from 2:13 to 2:19 sounds like Ave Maria by Franz Schubert - imo. ВИА "Здравствуй, песня" Не обещай [VIA] of " How do you do, [pesnya]" Do not promise ВИА "Пламя" Идёт солдат по городу [VIA] of " [Plamya]" [Idet] of soldiers around the city Some of these songs may not be too familiar so I have to include this unforgettable rendition of a more popular Russian song. Moscow Night - A Russian folk Song - Interpreted by Stanley Power |
I like Arsenal which I guess could be called a jazz fusion band that incorporated a range of influences in their music.
I didn't find the track I wanted, but here's the opener from the debut album. Some of this is quite RIO-y, but it's in no way representative of their music as a whole. |
I don't know much but one or two modern bands:
Post-jazz, instrumental 8-piece group from St. Petersburg I believe. |

After some more searching, I was able to find one of my favourite tunes. I have their music from a box-set containing all their work, but I believe this is from their second studio album. I'm afraid I have to run to work, but I'll check out Trio Voronezh when I come back :) |

Having posted more than 15 posts I think I'm now mature enough to put some links here so here we go. :) As an example of a genre that was well represented in Soviet Russia & other Soviet states I can post some old skool electronica from the 80s. Zodiak from Latvia are a pretty legendary band. You could easily call them the Kraftwerk of Latvia. Here's the opening track from their 1980 debut album "Disco Alliance":
For some reason, some of the coolest Soviet electronica I've found is featured on LPs that are intended for sports / aerobics background music. "Pulse: Sport and Music" LP trilogy has some really cool electronica tracks by various artists (Arsenal is also featured there btw!). Perfectly fit for the dancefloor b-boys & fly girls. Here's a couple of examples: |
