This Is Fire by Spires That In The Sunset Rise
This is a discussion thread for the following album:

This album won a recent selection poll of http://www.musicbanter.com/country-f...lbum-club.html - but of course everyone is welcome to join in the debate. :) So, anyone have an opinion they want to share ? |
I have listened to this album a few times and accessible probably isn't a description that would have occurred to me. I get the sense that they maybe take themselves a little too seriously and this probably impedes my enjoyment of something that may otherwise be an interesting album. I might come back to it when I'm in a different head space because I'm probably a little susceptible at the moment to the disquiet of this album.

I`ve been struggling for a couple of days with an album that turns out not to be This Is Fire, but is actually the self-titled debut album by Spires. It`s a little unfair, but on the basis of the debut, I don`t think I`ll be tracking down This Is Fire any time soon.
What I listened to was a group apparently striving to sound like a witches coven, which they did quite convincingly. Usually, with the witches scene in a play or movie, you move on pretty quickly to the drama itself, but there`s no story here, so you`re just left with a collection of overly-theatrical songs and declamations which I found pretty grating TBH, especially the women`s cracked, crone voices. My apologies to JP and Spires if I am doing an injustice to the more accessible This Is Fire by reviewing an earlier album. |
