I`ve been struggling for a couple of days with an album that turns out not to be This Is Fire, but is actually the self-titled debut album by Spires. It`s a little unfair, but on the basis of the debut, I don`t think I`ll be tracking down This Is Fire any time soon.
What I listened to was a group apparently striving to sound like a witches coven, which they did quite convincingly. Usually, with the witches scene in a play or movie, you move on pretty quickly to the drama itself, but there`s no story here, so you`re just left with a collection of overly-theatrical songs and declamations which I found pretty grating TBH, especially the women`s cracked, crone voices.

My apologies to JP and Spires if I am doing an injustice to the more accessible This Is Fire by reviewing an earlier album.
