Can't Remember His Name

I'm having trouble remembering this guy's name. I was going to explore his music, but I can't remember his name now. He's a country musician, I know that much. I also remember a color film with him playing in someone's house. If I remember correctly, he's with an elderly black man (who gets a bit teary in the song) and a young white women. I do know a bit about him, I know he was a bit of a mystery to people and that he traveled a lot with his guitar (trains, etc). I also know this was either during the sixties or seventies. I know his story sounds a bit hokey, but I only know this much. If anyone can help, that would be wonderful. I've been trying to get into country, and I think he's the only way (aside from Johnny Cash). Oh, and someone posted that video somewhere on this thread...

Are you talking about Townes Van Zandt? There's a part in Heartworn Highways where he's with Susana Clark and Uncle Seymour,

He's from the late 60s/70s and own up until his death in the 90s.

It has to be Townes.

He pretty much perfectly described that video. You must be a very visual thinker or something. Funny.

Yup, that's him. Thanks a lot.

No problem man. Its 10 til 8 and I still haven't been to sleep so glad I had something to spend a few minutes on during my sleepless night, lol. Good to see you're a Townes fan by the way. Nearly everyone I've introduced Townes to has loved him so I think he's a good way to get into this type of music much like Cash.

Yea, I really appreciate it. His song "Rake" is amazing. I love the line "time is like water, but I am the sea" - it's really simplistic but it holds an obvious and meaningful thought. He's definitely one of the best songwriters I've ever listened to. I rank him with Lou Reed, Arthur Lee, Bob Dylan, and Jim Morrison. By the way, is the song "Rake" a metaphor for his life, or is it just about Dracula?

OK, JackPat, since your question is answered, I'm gonna close this thread now.
