I have seen The Avett Brothers twice, and they were two of the funnest shows I have ever seen. I also just heard one of the new songs, produced by Rick Rubin, and it was definitely toned down from their earlier work. Very good, but toned down. The early stuff was as close to a hybrid of Punk and Bluegrass as anyone has EVER ventured. At least the live stuff.
I'm stoked for the new album, to be sure... |

First impressions: I like the piano as the focus and the less bouncy tunes are a nice balance. Doesn't have as much punch as Emotionalism but I didn't expect it to. It seems the lyrical content and musical style are more introspective and considering that the album is currently number 12 on iTunes there will likely be lots of talk of 'selling out' but I don't see that here. I'm sure my perception will change though, we'll see if this has any staying power.

this is a great band that was suggested on the mumford and sons website forums to a OP asking for similar bands. I did a search and was very pleased by the results
