This isn't half bad. Judging by their fans I really expected to hate it.

Edit: Though he comes off a little pious in that video, no?

I didn't really watch the video I was sorta interested in the song but I guess so but that kinda happens alot with folk it doesn't normally mean anything

man i wish I hadn't went and looked at the comments on the video now, I see what you mean, looks like the fans are pissy "THEIR BETTER THAN THIS BAND" idiots. The comparison to mumford and sons was inevitable but the debate is getting idiotic in there

well I think from the few things I've heard they sound less pretentious than M&S which counts for quite a bit.

Welcome to MB, by the way.

thank you

I see where you are comin from, I love Mumford & Sons and find their lyrics to be more just hopeful in bad situations, but thats up to the listener.

but yea Avett Brothers does have more literal lyrics which I do like

The Avett Brothers are a non-traditional bluegrass band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. The two brothers, Seth and Scott, formed the group after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding a third member, Bob Crawford. More recently, they have been joined by cellist Joe Kwon. The Avett Brothers combine old-time country, bluegrass, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk and ragtime to produce a sound described by the Washington Post as “post civil-war modern rock”, or by other reviewers as “grungegrass”. For a long time the group eschewed labels, feeling that “none would do the music justice.” Ironically the Avetts signed to Columbia Records on Independence Day 2008 to record their fifth album with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin. It’s simply left up to each person to extract his or her own account from the Avetts’ music.”

Their live performances, generally at smaller venues, showcase their use of three-part harmony and southern rock feel, and are admired for being intense, energetic, and soulful. The Avetts have been picking up steam opening for Dave Matthews Band and playing SXSW and Newport Folk Festival.

Personally i like this more then Mumford and Sons. MaS is the new hype and will slowly fade away. But if you like Avett Brothers, also try: Darling, The old crow medicine show, The everybodyfields.

Been checking out a couple albums. Emotionalism and I and Love and You. I like both albums, and both have great songs. However, they each have a couple stupid songs as well unfitting to the rest of the album.

Good stuff, thanks everybody for your thoughts!

Heard their shows are awesome, something like 13th banjo strings busted in a show once. That'd get a bit expensive but hey if it makes the fans happy, so be it.
