Hmm... She does have a very nice voice, but the moment I saw her I had a feeling she was going to be like all the other sad, beautiful female songwriters out there. For your comparison:





And kind of stretching with this one, but I think it works:


I used to love the first two artists. Listened to Washington for a long, long time, and the same goes for Spektor. But Washington came after Spektor, and one day while I was listening to it it occurred to me I'd heard this sort of thing before. And more than once. But if you can get past that, it's all lovely music and Laura Marling sounds like an excellent addition to its category.
