Default Rain Dog's Alt Country CD

For Beginers

Think you hate Country? I did once too, but if you like roots music you may be able to stomach an alt-country track listing, which is the equivelent of easing into the jaccuzi rather than cannonballing and and roasting your testicles (which in this extended metaphor is simply turning on a country radio station)

ok so here goes....

1. Johnny Cash - Ghost Riders in the sky
2. Willie Nelson - On the road again
3. Tom Waits - Blind Love
4. Neil Young - Harvest Moon
5. Bob Dylan - Lay Lady Lay (if you can sub in here, I hate this song, but its country)

6. Big & Rich - Save a horse, ride a cowboy
7. Kathleen Edwards - Six O'clock News/In State
8. Langhorne Slim - Cut it Down
9. Led Zeppelin - Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
10. Cake - Jesus wrote a blank check
11. Drive-by Truckers - Outfit
12. My Morning Jacket - Golden
13. Steve Earl - Home to Houston
14. Bright Eyes - Make War
15. Wilco - Forget the flowers
16. The Beatles - The Ballad of John and Yoko (sub in something more country)

17. Elton John - Tiny Dancer ( maybe grab the tim mcgraw version, wahtever)
18. Metallica - Mama Said
19. The Eagles - Life in the fast lane (it's bluegrassy)
20. The White Stripes - Hotel Yorba
21. Counting Crows - Aimee (non LP version)

Well as you can tell, I went for a couple of things here:

1.) It stayed realtivly mainstream to appeal to those compltly unfamiliar with the genre...

2.) There were some stretches but doing it from scratch its a working template posters can alter to fit their own tastes.

3.) I chosse some things I knew were country for the basis of getting them in there (I hate Lay Lady Lay, and is the Ballad of John and Yoko country enough)

Whatever, hopefulyl this will spark a minor fire in the country forum. please respond, politly or rude, just repsond.

I like the first four songs, then the list just kinda dips.
Maybe add Hank Williams Jr or Jimmie Rodgers...oh wait, this is alt country. Nevermind.

I'm liking Loretta Lynn and Lydia Lunch at the moment.

Im ressurecting this peice to attempt to juice these forums out of the dead.

I think we can all jam at least one Altcountry song. please just use this thread to suggest any song you want to bring to the attention of MB, all threads after this (on my part) failed to get momentum here.

/\ You know something, I just heard "Hold On, Hold On" from her Fox Confessor Brings the Blood and its ****ing tit.

And I don't see the connection, I think Patsy Cline sucks. Neko is amazing.

Also, I sorta recoil when comparing female singers to other female singers, as if theres only 5 female voices that go around.

I appreciate the back up in the Neko department, too few people know how great she really is.Every bit of hype she gets she truly deserves
