why bother?

![]() ![]() My latest discovery as far as cool singer-songwriters go. Mary Gauthier here's pretty damn cool, at least judging from the one album of her's I have, ie the 2007 one named after the song in the below video. It's excellent, modern alt-country stuff, reasonably sedated in the overall vibe, and reminds me a lot of Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Girl and Wrecking Ball, with some shades of the fairly gothic sound and storytelling lyrics of Townes Van Zandt. Highly recommended - listen or don't! Anyone else here a fan at all? If so, where should I go next with this one? And, as usual, links are available on request too. |
