Mary Gauthier
My latest discovery as far as cool singer-songwriters go. Mary Gauthier here's pretty damn cool, at least judging from the one album of her's I have, ie the 2007 one named after the song in the below video. It's excellent, modern alt-country stuff, reasonably sedated in the overall vibe, and reminds me a lot of Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Girl and Wrecking Ball, with some shades of the fairly gothic sound and storytelling lyrics of Townes Van Zandt. Highly recommended - listen or don't! Anyone else here a fan at all? If so, where should I go next with this one? And, as usual, links are available on request too. |

Yeah, me. I first saw Mary whenn she was on her first UK tour. It was soon after the 9/11 atrocity and all the American acts were staying at home.
She was appearing at a small club deep in the Yorkshire Dales. " They'll never find me here" she joked, and got me onside from that moment. I've followed her career ever since. She just had the one album, Drag Queens and Limousines out at the time. So, what do you think of the latest The Foundling? She certainly exorcised some demons writing this. |
