William Smith Monroe (September 13, 1911 – September 9, 1996) was an American mandolinist, singer, and songwriter, and created the bluegrass music genre. Because of this, he is often called the "Father of Bluegrass".
The genre takes its name from his band, the Blue Grass Boys, who named their group for the bluegrass of Monroe's home state of Kentucky.

Composed by the singer Cristina Escamilla, one of the most important voices of the genre in Colombia, and eight musicians with extensive experience and recognized musical quality, this band is directed by composer, guitarist and accordion player Juan Pablo Acosta.

His compositions include sevillanas and fandangos de Huelva, having participated in the introduction of Andalusian popular music into mass culture, introducing orchestral arrangements where previously only guitar and palillos (drumsticks) were played. In addition to being a musician, he was also a sculptor.
