I'm glad you think so, Safar!

"Off the beaten path". That's exactly what appeals to me with this thread, the music, and this whole sub-forum on MB: it's like a secret store of great sounds that you won't hear anyplace else because the artists don't get much attention outside their country of origin.

Tariku Gankasi is an Ethiopian musician from Jinka, a southern region of Ethiopia. Gankisi was a soldier in the military during the Ethio-Eritrean war. He saw much violence and his music has preached love and peace ever since he returned home......Not only does the song create conversations and controversy within Ethiopia, but it also successfully raises awareness across Africa. The song promotes unity and reconciliation.

.....Somalias musical stars went into exile throughout the globe. Many ended up in London, now home to the largest Somali diaspora in Europe. That is where Dur-Dur Band International, a powerhouse of Somali live music, was founded and remains based today. .......They call it The Berlin Session, the first studio album by a complete ensemble from Somali (a) since the golden era of Mogadishu came to a halt three decades ago. The music itself reflects the broad culture of its homeland, feeling perhaps equally Asian as it does African. A seafaring passage to the Silk Road, Somalias richness had long mirrored the incredible span of its trade-absorbing immigrants and instruments from throughout Southeast Asia, India, Persia, Europe and the Arabian Peninsula....
