Aw, wish her thread weren't dead. It should be resurrected. She has such a lovely smoky voice (wonderful lyricist, too.)

Yeah, she's a brilliant and brutally honest songwriter. An imminent new album is reason to resurrect her thread.

I have that The Long Surrender album and it's an odd one. Some tracks are brilliant whilst others are almost cabaret-ish - a style I really don't like.

I really like the track Rave On:

Yeah, that one's really nice, very ominous. The repetitiveness makes it feel sort of dreamlike. Her voice is so sultry.

Anyone know of a folksy band with a deeper-voiced male vocalist? Similar to guy from The National's voice? I seem to only ever come across Mumford & Sons-type groups (as in, the same sort of vocals and tone which I'm a bit bored of). I already know of and adore King Dude.

Today's indie-folk rotation...

Hi, Chiomara! Welcome to MB! It's always good when someone takes an interest in this thread, and to judge from your selections, Mr. Charlie at last has a soulmate. The Long Surrender tracks sound pretty interesting.

On YouTube I've just come across Nass Marrakech. They have an innovative approach to traditional Moroccan gnawa music, apparently; whatever they do, the result is a dreamy, jazzy, mid-tempo style that I really like:-

Hell yes on Neko Case, though I'm probably in the minority for preferring her debut, but 60s/70s Nashville sound country pop is awesome and Case does a brilliant version of it.

Her debut doesn't get enough love. But yeah she can pretty much do no wrong (she's my wife btw)
If she ever did a Wanda Jackson cover album I think I'd die of happiness.
