Contemrery Country (2010)

This is about as country as I get when it concerns current modern country. Although I'm sure there are other good artist out there.

This particular song Quiet You Mind shy's away from the Zac Brown country influence/trademark, as being more rock/southern rock orientated.

Cold Hearted has a beautiful violin solo.

Zac Brown has a very good band and production.

Ladies and gentlemen, I request some good raga music. I know and love Ravi Shankar, but beyond that my knowledge is severely limited. I don't want western psychedelia that incorporates the sound, I'm well familiar with a lot of that, I want proper, Indian raga.

Who can help me out with recommendations?

Unfortunately, I'm not all that knowledgeable of this genre, and some of its music can be very hard to get a hold of. Uhm... you could try looking into Ali Akbar Khan (who has collaborated with Shankar in the past).

That's about all I know.

I`m no expert either, but violinist L. Subramaniam has a good reputation. I have a beautiful cassette of him playing with Yehudi Menuhin, and he`s also played with Jean-Luc Ponty.
This is raga music, right ? :-

Yea, it sounds like raga, and it's pretty damn good if you ask me. What albums of his would you recommend?

A cabaret band worth checking out is White Ghost Shivers. Kind of jazz/country cabaret, and very Vaudevillian, and the singers got a great voice. I couldn't find any songs on youtube but live performances though.

You can play their discograhy for free here though:

TBH, I only know the album I mentioned, which was issued by CBS in 1988 and has the extraodinarily clumsy title, " L. Subramaniam with special guest Yehudi Menuhin in the USA". It sounds very Indian to me, but is probably a little watered-down and westernised.

According to Amazon, LS has 22 albums to his credit - the ones I particularly noticed were:-

Raga Sarasvatipriya - this has three 25-minute tracks and sounds like really hard-core raga.
Spanish Wave - includes Larry Coryell in the credits and seems to be an exploration of various world music styles. If you find this one, I`d be very interested, JP ;) !
