wow... I ALWAYS get upset when I think that the band ACTUALLY wrote the songs they play just to find out later that they didn't. It looses some of its impact when they havent written it themselves. yeah that Shel Silverstein fact really blows my mind haha |

'One Piece At A Time'
This song is great traditional country music. It has a great driving rhythm and awe storytelling by Johnny Cash. The lead guitar adds so much as Carl Perkins tended to do back in his day, and really gives this song a great feel. One of Cash's best. Cover of soundgarden's 'Rusty Cage' from american 2. This song was so far outside of Cash's musical realm that most people would have believed he couldn't do it justice. But the Cash man comes through with what I believe is one of his best covers ever (yes that means better than 'Hurt'). Cash's voice really flows along over the heavy rhythm guitars in the intro and makes Cornell's lyrics mean something more dark and mystic than even he probably could have ever imagined. The middle of the song explodes into a heavy electric riff where Cash comes back in with the lyrics and just nails the perfect sound and carries this energy to the end of the song. This song is Rick Rubin's best cover choice for Cash I believe. |
