News:
* Nena Daconte is no longer a duo. Vocalist Mai Meneses goes solo, although under the same stage name. On November 2010 she published Una mosca en el cristal. In my opinion, not as good as the two earlier albums (btw, the first one has an outstanding artistic level to me), but at least it contains four or five notable songs. Pregúntame ("Ask to Me") and Una mosca en el cristal ("A Fly at the Window"): Also (click): Niña azul ("Blue Little Girl") and Por ti ("Because of You").* Indie band Nudozurdo has just released its third album: Tara Motor Hembra. And I love it. Superb, excellent, splendid, magnificent.... I don't know what adjectives to write in. Absolutely recommended. Even better than previous record Sintética (2008). It shows an unusual sensitivity to me. I find it captivating, emotive and exquisite at the same time. It combines an innovative sound (at least to the Spanish-language music) with introspective and metaphorical lyrics (frustration, love, self-esteem, solitude, torment, sadness, fear and other feelings). Golden gotelé ("Golden Sprayed-On Paint") and Conocí el amor ("I Knew What Love Is"): Conocí el amor ♫ "Hay algo sucio............There's something dirty dentro de ti..................inside of you. Hay algo oscuro..............There's something obscure que quiero para mí................and I want it to be mine. Entré en tu cuerpo...............I went into your body en una ocasión:.................once: vi arder mi casa,..............I saw my house in flames, conocí el amor..............I knew what love is. (repeated) No hay nadie humano................There's no one that is a human a tu alrededor...............around you. Siempre has querido............You've always wanted ser el mejor...........to be the best. (...)" ♫ Dosis modernas ♫ "Si mi mente destruye ................................ If my mind destroys todo lo que deseo, ................................ every wish I have, si en tus labios siempre ................................ if in your lips always hay algo mucho mejor, ................................ there is something much better, si detrás de esa puerta están ................................ if behind that door they are vendiendo oro negro, ................................ selling black gold, lo quiero comprar ................................ I want to buy it y sentir que su brillo ................................ and feel that its shine se incrusta en mi piel. ................................ gets embedded in my skin. Sube, mi amor, ................................ Come up, my love, no hay nadie dentro. ................................ there's no one inside. Sube, mi amor, ................................ Come up, my love, a mi cerebro. ................................ to my brain. Y qué quieres que haga ................................ What can I do, si ya no me divierto, ................................ if I don't enjoy myself anymore, si todos mis movimientos ................................ if all my moves dicen que me detesto. ................................ say that I loathe myself. Y qué quieres que haga ................................ What can I do, si ya no puedo ................................ if I no longer sentir lo que siento, ................................ feel what I feel, si grito con fuerza mi nombre ................................ if I shout my name out loud y apenas me puedo escuchar. ................................ but I can hardly hear myself. Sube, mi amor, ................................ Come up, my love, no hay nadie dentro. ................................ there's no one inside. Sube, mi amor, ................................ Come up, my love, a mi cerebro. ................................ to my brain. Si mi mente destruye ................................ If my mind destroys todo lo que deseo, ................................ every wish I have, si en tus labios siempre ................................ if in your lips always hay algo mucho mejor, ................................ there is something much better, si detrás de esa puerta están ................................ if behind that door they are vendiendo oro negro, ................................ selling black gold, lo quiero probar ................................ I want to try it y sentir que su brillo ................................ and feel that its shine se incrusta en mi piel. ................................ gets embedded in my skin." ♫ I promise I will translate more Nudozurdo's lyrics. ![]()

We'll continue with the emergent Chilean indie scene later on, but now we go to the neighboring country. Let's take a listen to the 60's Peruvian rock.
![]() * Los Saicos (1964-1966). Despite its short career, this was a very influential band. At the time, its style was really original (some call it "pre-punk"). Demolición ("Demolition") and El entierro de los gatos ("The Cats' Funeral"): * Los Shain's (1964-1969) and Los York's (1966-1974), two outstanding bands from Lima. Rock-&-roll and Psychedelic rock. * And a young band with a revival style: Los Protones.

Now, as I promised, Andalusian rock. How did underground meet flamenco? Let's see: Late 60's and early 70's, two American military bases in Andalusia (southern Spain): Rota (Navy) and Morón (mind the accent in the 2nd o;
![]() Other significant Andalusian-rock bands: * Triana (1974-1983): En el lago ("At the Lake", 1974) and Quiero contarte ("I Want to Tell You", 1979). Una historia ("A Story") and Abre la puerta ("Open the Door"): * Medina Azahara (since 1979): Paseando por la mezquita ("Walking in the Mosque", 1980) and La esquina del aire ("The Corner of the Air").

On a different topic:
* Enrique Bunbury (since 1997), former Héroes del Silencio's vocalist. Six solo albums published. Diverse styles and influences (electro-rock, jazz, cabaret, folk, etc.). From album Radical Sonora (1997), Salomé and Alicia [expulsada al País de las Maravillas] ("Alice [expelled to Wonderland]"): Salomé "Me pides lo imposible ................................ You ask me for the impossible y yo te lo concedo. ................................ and I grant it to you. De vuelta yo te ruego así; ................................ Why do you look down on me like this when it gets light? Quizás a tí no te importe. ................................ Maybe you don't care. Que bien amarre lo que nos une. ................................ May that what we share unite us. Mientras pueda respirar aquí te espero. ................................ Quieres que rueden cabezas, ................................ You want heads to roll, quieres buscar al infame, ................................ you want to look for the loathsome one, quieres que sea el verdugo así ................................ you want me to be the executioner y quieres que sea el culpable. ................................ and you want me to be the culprit. Resuming work. As we said some months ago, there's a new batch of succesful Chilean musicians. Next, two well-known singer-songwriters:
Javiera Mena. Two albums released. Electropop. These songs are Primera estrella ("First Star") and Hasta la verdad ("Till the Truth"): Gepe. Eclectic sound (he combines different pop and folk styles).

I'm really interested in any music scenes that are non-English-speaking. I don't know much about Spanish language music but I'm happy that this thread exists! All those posts by Zabarqal look very interesting, I hope i have time to go through all of them.
![]() Has anybody mentioned Hundergrum? They are an excellent record label specialized in Spanish psychedelic rock music from the past decades. I have their compilation "Acid Rumba: Gipsy Grooves 1969-1976" and it's very very good! Here's a short description of the compilation I found from the web: "Long-haired session musicians armed with electric guitars and drums started to get involved with flamenco and rumba singers, creating an explosive sound: fuzz & wah guitars, Moogs and Farfisa, drum breaks and soulish horns blend with exotic flamenco & rumba percussions and raw vocals." |

And now...
* Obús (since 1981). Va a estallar el obús ("The Bombshell is About to Explode", 1981) and Pesadilla nuclear ("Nuclear Nightmare"): Salvajemente sexy ("Wildly Sexy") and El que más ("The Best One", 1984): And (click) Te visitará la muerte ("Death Will Visit You"), F.M., Autopista ("Highway", 1984), Dinero, dinero ("Money, Money"), Viviré ("I Will Live It Up"), Alguien ("Someone", 1984), etc. There is a compilation album titled Vamos muy bien (2006). To be continued...
