Hi folks - I just came across this. I like most of the groups mentioned in the thread, but didn't ever know another soul who also does. I've never participated in an online forum before so bear with me while I figure it out.
Anyway, I recently picked up a 2 CD label sampler (for only $10) called Rodentia: the Best of Dark Roots Music. Got it from the label website. Includes: Strawfoot, O'Death, Christian Williams, Dad Horse Experience, Uncle Sinner, Pinebox Serenade, Creech Holler, Muleskinner Jones, Tarantella, Reverend Elvis, Those Poor Bastards, and a whole bunch more. Some good stuff on there! |

Mm that does sound like quite the stellar list. If you wish to follow up any of those artists with full albums I can help you out there, assuming it doesn't go against any belief system you have when it comes to downloading music.

That would be cool! How does that work though? I've had a subscription to emusic for years and have quite a selection myself. (I used to do Audiogalaxy, then Limewire, but stopped 'cause of all the junk that infested the PC)

A lot of people are taking a more personal approach when it comes to downloading music. Rather than using P2P programs, that like you said, usually infect your computer with loads of crap people are using media uploading websites. The popular ones are Mediafire, Rapidshare, and Megaupload. Essentially full albums are zipped into one compressed file, then uploaded onto these host websites, then links can be passed out to people that lead to a direct download. It's always free, almost always takes less than five minutes, so it's a lot faster than torrents, and it's sharing on a more personal level.

On forums it's generally frowned upon to post links to album downloads as it could attract unwanted attention from "The Man". Therefore we usually do it through Private Message upon request. However if you created a mix, much like the one you bought, posting a link on the forums is a great way of introducing members to new groups.
Anyhow I finally got around to creating these videos and uploading them to Youtube, hope you enjoy. Munly & The Lee Lewis Harlots is possibly one of the darkest songs I've ever heard, such an incredible song, I would HIGHLY recommend you take the time out to listen to it. |

Hey thanks. Awesome, just awesome.
Have you heard Jeff Finlin? "...Dominated by themes of love and betrayal, death and rebirth, the characters in Finlin's sordid little tales are always leaving -- leaving bad relationships, leaving good relationships, even leaving this mortal vale. If songs like "The Perfect Mark of Cain" or "Waiting on a Flood" seem hopelessly dark, Finlin also imbues Original Fin with the light of faith and..." (snippet from emusic review) Perfect Mark of Cain blew me away when I first heard it a few days ago. Also, I like the group Murder By Death - someone may have already mentioned them. Some of Chris Knight's stuff is pretty dark, too. |

i'm diggin jeff finlin, though some of his stuff is alittle too ambient to me now chris knight on the other hand is a subject i'm well versed in,....for some years now his 'it aint easy bein me' has been a standard in the texas country circles i've adopted 'framed' as one of my own personal anthems youre right, chris can get alittle dark, but in a very beautiful poetic way, and thats why i love about him,...after all all you really need is love and a .45
