What I meant was, its sort of a mish-mash. It doesn't really give you a direction and it seems to me if you're not into this style of music, you'd be looking for a path to go down. Instead we're throwing them in the deep end.

Honestly, I'm sure I'd love a lot of whats suggested here but I don't have the time to try something I think I'll hate. More descriptions please?

Oh, ok. Well, It's sort of like the tag line on No Depression magazine "...whatever that is." Genre labels are a handy shorthand, but are inherently problematic. I myself have a hard time classifying the music we talk about on this site because oftentimes what I like about this music is the juxtaposition of styles in often unexpected ways. And I often can't quite put my finger on the influences and instrumentation like my son, who is a musician, can. So rather than sounding like an idiot, I tend to shy away from detailed reviews/descriptions. So if it seems like a mish-mash, it's because it is! Also, I think that people who like music which is a composite of styles tend to also like the styles on which it's based. So if I like punkabilly, I'll probably also tend to like rockabilly. Some of the artists that get mentioned here aren't really gothic country but fall under the general taste umbrella of gothic country, etc. fans.

Amazon.com: Gospel Haunted: Those Poor Bastards: Music
If I wasn't dirt poor, I'd have gotten it a month and a half ago. But, seeing as I can't afford it, I'll just have to wait until it pops up on the internet somewhere for free download. I'd really like to buy the vinyls, maybe someday.

Ah, another band that I have been looking for, and would recommend, is JB Nelson. Keep an eye out!

There's lots. Browse back through this thread and take note of recurring artists. I started with 16 Horsepower, Elliott Brood, and O'Death and went from there.

Does anyone have The Dedringers – Sweetheart of the Neighborhood or Jeff Finlin – Ballad of a Plain Man?
