Hazel Smith was the woman who came up with the term "Outlaw". She felt that they type of music needed a name. She thought of "Outlaw" & looked up the defenition. She saw the line "Living on the outside of the written law". She thought that is what these guys were doing with their music.
This is how she recounts sharing her idea with the would be Outlaws "I said Outlaw to them.Tompall frowned. Waylon just grunted & looked at me like I did something bad or stupid. He shrugged. I don't think either of them liked it" Hazel also worked with Kinky Friedman."Kinky was just too clever for radio. Kinky's lyrics were just so clever that radio would not play them" |

apart from Hank Jr. in that list. for the most part yeah.. so long as it is David Allen Coe or some sh*t like that.
Hank Sr. to me is the only Williams worth a damn. But Outlaw country, though most of it was phony in the sense it was all a put on, was cool. Much better than the fluffy pop called country today. which is just pop music with twangy guitars.

Yeah, but then you have his racist bulls*it, like "Underground Record" that makes me wanna shoot him. He and Johnny Rebel should be dragged out of their homes and shot. Coe is a jack off, and not even a funny one. Just an idiot.
