Default Giant Sand / Howe Gelb

I am a big fan of Giant Sand so therefore Howe Gelb. I have several records by Giant Sand including the latest *proVISION*. He is appearing in my town in late October and I am looking forward to this gig immensely. Of the albums that I have I would suggest that the strongest is The Love Songs from 1988 and Is All Over the Map from 2004 but I am bias enough to enjoy them all. His last album under his own name 'Sno Angel Like You is probably his most accessible. A wonderful record of Alt. Country rock with a Gospel Choir. Love his witty lyrics and Hood (a view from a Heidelberg hotel) from his Giant Sand album Is All Over The Map is a witty drunken drawl that has certain sad philosophical feel.

Any other fans of this oddball singer songwriter of Alt. county?

Anyone in the mood for Howe Gelb ? I ask because the album Hisser is all about mood; laid-back, low-fi, careless and mellow. How often you feel like that is how often you might enjoy this album.
Songs kind of wash together, good bits break the surface like sparkling fish then disappear: no drama, and it almost seems, no effort. I read a review that talked about "a dusty piano", which may not be a legit musical description, but it gives an idea of the sound.
My own first impression; might have been better with a little more discipline, but then lack of discipline is its charm. Perhaps H Gelb+producers were caught in a baby-and-the-bath-water quandary at the editing stage and decided to release it without tampering or tidying. It certainly sounds that way.
This stands out as one of the best tracks, while title track, Hisser, stands out as one of the worst imo.
