Transglobal Underground
As the name implies,TGU use a dance music asthetic as a backdrop to whoever is in the collective at any one time. The core duo of TimWhelan and Hamilton Lee invite various musicians from all corners of the globe and act primarily as a festival favourite, however their albums are fantastically genre busting and cohesive taking in Dub, Reggae, Afro-Beat, Techno, Hip-Hop and Asian beats. Recommended albums: Backpacking On The Graves Of Our Ancestors (an early 'Best Of'),Impossible Broadcasting and latest release 'Moonshout'.

I think it is because they genre hop, they have become better at certain genre styles than others but on the whole they are a fantastic band but because they use a lot of electronic rhythmns I feel that they don't get the attention their rich and diverse music deserves.

Bumping this as the track I included on the recent MB comp is well liked. Discuss and PM's can be available.

Been listening to Impossible Broadcasting over the last day or so. Gotta say it's a brilliant album. Sounds to me like a better version of Thievery Corporation's the Cosmic Game, in the way it crosses Afro-beat with trip-hop and throws a bit of dub into proceedings. As I say, brilliant album - couldn't recommend it enough.
Thanks a lot for the link Jackhammer - I owe ya |
