Bonnie "Prince" Billy
a few buddies keep telling me to check out his work but I have never really been bothered enough to try. so i'm curious to see what y'all have to say about him.
so, any hearty recommendations? |
I like the collab with Tortoise, though that's all I've heard.
It's got some great covers on it. |
what's his best album, peeps
|
I've only just heard I see a darkness and Master and Everyone, I like the first one more. If you haven't done it already, get it.
Can anyone recommend some more albums from his extensive discography? |

I See a Darkness is definitely his best.
|
How many have you heard?
|
I See a Darkness, The Letting Go, Ease Down the Road and then some of his Palace Brothers stuff. The Letting Go is his second best, his new one should be good.

Sigh...well, I'll still have to see for myself...

Death to everyone
I am here, right here Where god puts none asunder And you, in black dress and black shoe You do invite me under Go on, go there You can see me aging Stars turn, balls burn Coming kids are raging Death to everyone is gonna come And it makes hosing much more fun Death to everyone is gonna come And it makes hosing much more fun La la la ... Every terrible thing is a relief Even months on end buried in grief Are easy light times which have to end With the coming of your death friend Death to everyone is gonna come And it makes hosing much more fun Death to everyone is gonna come And it makes hosing much more fun La la la ... So strap me on and raise me high Cause buddy I'm not afraid to die But life is long and it's tremendous And we're glad that you're here with us And since we know an end will come It makes our living fun Death to everyone is gonna come And it makes hosing much more fun Death to everyone is gonna come And it makes hosing much more fun Death to me and death to you Tell me what else can we do die do Death to all and death to each Our own god-bottle's within reach Death to everyone is gonna come And it makes hosing much more fun http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c.../leviathan.gif |
I See A Darkness and Master and Everyone are, in my opinion, the best albums.
You can't go far wrong with any of his work though, even The Letting Go is really beautiful. |
Well these are timely revelations, I had "I See A Darkness" next on my agenda. I'm hoping for fireworks, and just might get'em.
|
I got "Days in the Wake" after hearing the track "I Am a Cinematographer" which is a cracking tune indeed. Though haven't put much time into his other albums... yet.
|
My two favorites are Lost Blues And Other Songs(collection of singles,it`s under the name Palace Music)and Days In The Wake
|
Lie Down in the Light is fantastic, the female vocals are great. You Remind Me of Something (The Glory Goes) is beautiful.
EDIT: Wow I think this could be my favorite album this year. |

Well I got as far as Keep an eye on on Lie down in the light. It did nothing for me...:\
Incidentally, shouldn't this go in the folk subforum? |
Indeed it should.
|
Wow, just downloaded Lie Down In The Light. This is a really spectacular album, one of the best folk records I've heard in years. They sound like a good, more folk-oriented My Morning Jacket. If it wasn't for Elbow, this would be my favorite album this year. I'm really impressed.

folk, eh? The main body of the guy's work seems to be indie rock
