Derek Trucks
Why was the Derek Trucks band listed as world music? or are they still?
it seems to me they should be listed as Jazz and Blues. I'd say fusion but that seems a little redundant.... |
mmmmm i would consider them blues,...
if your into them, you should also make sure to check out his wife susan tedishi and warren haynes, govt mule |
They would definitely get MY Blues vote. I think Eric Clapton's obsession with using him as one of HIS musicians, would give that opinion a little clout. Eric may have worked with some great Jazz musicians throughout his career, but he always loved to surround himself with other guitarists that felt the Blues. And Derek was one of his favorites.

blues by a long way
but one of the more interesting blues guitarists...hard to be interesting in a largely dead and redundant genre |

Derek Trucks
Well, there's no thread about Derek Trucks yet, so I thought I'd make one. This man's playing is simply amazing. He is without a doubt one of the most influential slide guitarists of this generation. His music combines so many unique elements and genres. Agree?

Totally! Trucks is not only inspired by blues artists, but also east indian Sarod players too. I believe his diversity adds alot to the nature of his sound. Another interesting tidbit is that he avoids using effects, he likes to just plug his guitar into the amp.
Personally I like his work with the Allman Brothers Band, espically seen live at Beacon Theater DVD. Check out Soulshine from that DVD, an amazing example of his soulful slide playing (Warren Haynes rocks too!). |

Doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion about him on this forum. The guy was amazing from the beginning.
