But therefor those that stumble on to this post: se7en is Korean and they're more along the lines of R&B (if it's possible) than pop. Good Pop artists would be maybe: Ayumi Hamasaki Morning Musume Namie Amuro Maaya Sakamoto Megumi Hayashibara Glay BoA is a Korean group. They are crossing over into the Japanese music industry and they are very popular in Japan. I think they got their first break when they did a song for the anime Inuyasha a popular Japanese animated series as well comic and book series

He's mostly known for his work with computers. He's made quite a name for himself in Okinawa. At any rate he did work on the Silent Hill video games and as I'm a fan of Silent Hill I'm a fan of him as well.

There's so much more good J-pop out there than most people pay attention to. Yeah, Ayumi and Utada and the usuals are good and everything, but there are some amazing singers and groups out there that definitely match. Tomoko Kawase's projects have always been favorites of mine because they really tend to bring something different or new to the genre. Nana Kitade is another personal favorite although her voice can get pretty damn nasally sometimes.
I also highly suggest Anna Tsuchiya, most of the Hello Project acts for the more hyperactive J-pop fan, Zone, and Zwei. And if we get into the J-rock side of things, there's a whole 'nother unexplored world there.
