Downloading it. Listened to a couple samples on Last.fm because he's Joanna Newsom's top similar artist on it.
EDIT: Eh, didn't like it that much, but I remembered thinking he was pretty interesting in the samples. Could anyone recommend an album I might like more? Last edited by CAPTAIN CAVEMAN; 09-08-2007 at 12:02 AM. |

So I'm thinking that I like the new album more than Cripple Crow, speaking in terms of the whole album. Cripple Crow has most of my favorite songs of his, but you gotta admit that it kinda jumps all over the place. The new album however, follows a steady sound/feel and still has its gems. I'm actually really loving Saved, which as you might have guessed, is about being saved, but it's such an awesome song. He has the backing choir of female gospel singers mixed with his soulful-folky sound and it sounds great. So Long Old Bean is another good one, kinda fits Cripple Crow more.
But yeah, great album, get it now. |

Devendra Banhart
I find Devendra Banhart to be an ingenious musician and he's doing a great thing for folk music; definitely my personal favourite music of the last decade. The "Indie" category was the only place I thought Devendra's music would fit, since there's not exactly a folk section. But what do you think of Devendra Banhart and other previous or upcoming "neo-folk" or "naturalismo" musicians/bands (i.e. CocoRosie, Antony and the Johnsons, Noah Georgeson, Vetiver, The Espers).
