She did a concert for Pavorati (I butchered that one) and she played "give me one reason" with Clapton sitting in.

To me he butchered it and I was wondering if you heard it, does Claptons world beat/soft rock influence screw that song up for you?

Default Tracy Chapman

Unless someones beaten me to it.

Didn't know if this was the right place to put her but still, wrote wonderful songs, wonderful lyrics, wonderful chord progressions in a lot of cases and just generally constructed beautiful pieces of music.

Any fans?

Her self titled is pretty darn good. Simple pop songs with a few basic chords really, but done with care. I think I may check out the rest, any suggestions?

Tracy Chapman is from Cleveland, Ohio.
I am glad I found this thread in the search forums, Tracy is classified in the Folk, Blues, Alternative Rock, & soul genres.
I think the Folk or Blues genres are the more appropiate labels that describes her style of music.

This thread has all but died but in the car the other day I heard Tracy's give me one reason and remembered how much I use to play that song. Which sparked the need to brain storm and try an remember songs I use to be reallly into years ago. Which is the reason for the Fuel thread but anyway I never took the time to research or really look for anything more than just the one song by Chapman. Im planning on doing a little digging around and seeing what else she released in the past. I havent heard her name mentioned in a long time does anyone know if she's still making music at all?
Also as far as genre classifacation to me give me one reason shouldnt be described as anything but Blues imo.

I did some quick googling and it looks like her last release was in '08

Always been a fan of her tremendous tone and vocal quality. This song to me was very touching and detailed racial inequality in a perfect manner. This song has a very haunting quality, her resonance on vocals i always found rather pleasant.
