I'm not from Wyomning, I live in one of the more prosperous London suburbs & I have never been in jail. I love country music. Not all of it, of course, & not only country music. But there is alot of good stuff there |

i dunno - they sing about killing people, drinking, womanising and can get away with it
rappers do that and they're constantly on the firing line some of the lyrics are more extreme than gangsta rap, but the music is contrapuntal to it in some ways, that's why I like it - e.g. Cash's Delia's Gone or Cocaine Blues |

Much as I like Johnny Cash his version of "Delia's Gone" never did it for me. OK, this is a psychopath singing, but we get no idea of who he is or his motivation. And I thought the video for trhat just in bad taste.
"Cocaine Blues" on the other hand is brill. This Psycho is one you can believe & the frantic pace helps. Cash went in a fair bit for psycho lyrics- as in the guy in Folsom Prison Blues who shot a man in Reno "just to watch him die". If you are looking for gangsta country, check out David Allan Coe. The guy is bonkers, but some of his songs are great |

Because these songs are morality tales, they always show that the murderer cannot escape the consequences of their deeds. The killer ends up in jail or on the gallows. This tradition goes back to songs such as T for Texas, Tom Dooley and Hey Joe. |
