i used to hate country music. some girl i dated played it constantly. after i dumped her it started to grow on me. right about that time i noticed there were some really cool guitar tracks hidden among all that other stuff.
ever try to play any of those chicken-pickin licks? they're no joke, and they aren't in your face the way rock guitar is sometimes. besides, ever go to a concert for someone like alan jackson, or toby keith or brad paisely?
party girls abound!

I got into it in the early 90s when electronic music was tormenting me. I heard what sounded like singer songwriters from the 70s and I liked the emphasis on great vocals.

Screw Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, and Alan Jackson.

That sound is absolute rubbish! It's boring and absolute hack.

The main reason i listen/write country music is because i was raised around it... my whole family is full of musicians, and with the exception of a select few, all of them played country, and even the select few only played southern rock.

I love Country music, definitely one of my favorite genres.

Even if it's as fake as they get, and the whole "Country boy"-esque songs get annoying, it's hard to beat a heartfelt country song.

Smile Keep It Country!

Hmmm, why come into a Country Music forum and BASH the Genre and all that it relates to? Have you people nothing better to do???

We are all different (thank God) and if it's not for you then fine - go somewhere where you can be positive about music instead of satisfying your need to be an ass***e!!!

I'm from Scotland and I love Country, always have. Honest, simple, good-lovin music with values. Something the world seems to have lost in many places. It's sad we no longer have CMT in this country - CMT Europe stopped broadcasting quite a few years ago now

It appears that every other music genre gets coverage, except Country. Hopefully with the current interest in Taylor Swift, Country will get more exposure. I find it laughable in the UK that radio stations here mock Country Music as some do in here, even though it has a massive following. If more country artists would come to the UK, maybe we could see a rise in popularity for the music. Hats off to Keith Urban, Sugarland, Toby Keith (Glasgow, 2009), Julie Roberts - BUT we need MORE! - The likes of Taylor, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts etc etc. Hurry guys - there IS an audience here waiting for you!!!

It's amazing the amount of people that hear country for the FIRST time and LIKE it!! Personally.............. I LOVE IT!!!

KEEP IT COUNTRY!!!

Garth Brooks is apparently hellishly popular in Ireland, apparently.

too true. if any music of substance has an audience, someone somewhere will try to dumb it down and appeal to more people and make more money. country music radio is like pop radio, only with twang and maybe a pedal steel. and it's funny that a lot of the artists carrying on the old country tradition would never get played on "country" stations!
