Not a band?

Are you talking about the French Canadian circus? It is awesome... I have been to several shows and am dying to go see "Love" their new Beatles show in Vegas.

However, this is not music is it? It is a circus....

They are a performing circus group, but their founder and it's members also compose their own independent-electronica music which they label under the same name. They have quite a few albums out there, and their music can be awesome, very ethnic and has a variety of influences in it. Check out "La Reveur", I think it is off their album Zoomanity, Thievery corporation did a great remix on it. I recommend it as a start.

La Reveur is from Varekai. ;)

I'd just like to revive this thread a little if I may, because Cirque du Soleil recently released the soundtrack to "Amaluna," the latest show. I'm not particularly thrilled with the first few songs from the album, but I'm still listening.

The only shows I'm really familiar with are Alegria (which I saw live and have loved the soundtrack for years) and Varekai.

If you're interested, I suggest "Patzivota" and "Gitans" from Varekai. Awesome tracks.

I'd like to download a couple more of the soundtracks, perhaps to shows like La Nouba, Ovo, or Zoomanity, but if anyone has any recommendations I will be so delighted!

Edit: Can I also suggest it be moved to the World Music or Soundtracks section of MB? It doesn't really fit in electronica...

If anyone likes Cirque du Soleil but cannot go to one of the actual shows, the 3d Worlds Away movie is great and has a nice Beatles soundtrack (an acoustic version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps being my favorite!). I don't know much about Cirque du Soleil but this movie has been at the theater I work at for quite a while and has gotten lots of positive reviews. I've watched it and it is worth seeing! ^_^ Just thought I'd bring it up as it hasn't been mentioned yet...

Hmm, knew of the circus of course, most people do. I hadn't a clue they were involved with music much though. I might have to check that out.

They even create their own languages (non-sensical, but what the hey), to have a more international sound. :) Usually you can find some tracks in Spanish, Italian, French, and English, though. I really like their soundtracks.

Came in the thread expecting videos, did not see videos. Slightly disappointed :(

I adore them. My favorite of their shows is Quidam. Love the opening a lot:

We watched a LOT of Cirque in theatre class for all four years, and this is the one that I absolutely adored for every aspect of the show.

A girl I knew and kind of "talked to" for a bit was in talks with Cirque du Soleil for a period of time, but ultimately couldn't do it because she has epilepsy. She was the best baton twirler I've ever seen in my life, though. I saw a few on television, America's Got Talent and all of that, and they were nowhere near as crisp...and I've never seen anyone do an illusion turn like her.
