Vashti Bunyan
 

1960s british psych folk artist, shes been described as the female bob dylan which is the main reason I avoided checking her out because I thought her voice was going to be terrible but its not at all. Shes more of a female Nick Drake though. Its really chill music, she has an amazing sounding voice and it blended with the music just sounds really beautiful.

Shes done some work with Animal Collective (Prospect Hummer) and Devendra Banhart (Rejoicing In The Hands). I have Just Another Diamond Day and Prospect Hummer if anyone wants it.

Just Another Diamond Day

Belle and Sebastian should be paying her royalties.

It's a great album. "Rose Hip November" is my favorite track. So beautiful.

Must be for some original pressing. That particular Vashti album is quite easy to find on LP for a tiny fraction of that. Maybe those are re-issues.

The fact is the first issue of "Just Another Diamond Day" from 1970 was a great market failure that drove Vashti Bunyan out of music industry for more than 30 years. There was really few copies available on market too. It was just in 2000s when the album regained popularity and re-issues were released. So it must be truly one of the first copies.

Oh yeah that makes sense. I remember hearing about that when I first got into that album. That it was sort of retroactively made a classic, thanks to the internet I guess, but that few gave a **** back in the day. I believe she made a new album in the 2000's somewhere.

Well, I think it was more related with the fact that some songs were used in commercials (like T-Mobile, for instance), one of them was also on air during NFL's commercial breaks in the US. And I think "Train Song" could be heard in one episode of "True Detective" TV series.

And yes, there were two more albums later on: Lookaftering (2005) and Heartleap (2014). Mind the gap between first and second album: 35 years! Greater come-back is hardly to be noticed!

Not to say that they are actually greater than the comeback of Vashti, but similarly there where some more artists in the folk section that had a lengthy period of dissapearing that allways springs to mind when I think of Vashti. First and foremost Linda Perhacs (who I actually prefer to Vashti), and also Simon Finn and Mark Fry (these are the ones I could name offhand, but there are probably more that I forgot now...)
Any thoughts on them?

I became aware of Bunyan via Pandora. Every once in a while Pandora will throw a string of indie-folk acts and/or singer-songwriters in the middle of my dubstep/EDM selections because it knows I like female vocals. I have to be in a certain mood for indie folk, but I was intrigued enough to check out some of her stuff.
