I'm surprised no one has said You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go by Madeline Peyroux.

Definitely my favorite.

I can't stand that Turtles cover. There's a funny clip of Dylan talking about how his songs have been covered so many times in the film "No Direction Home". "The Byrds covered a song...uhh, some band called The Turtles?..."

^ I agree. It`s a perfect demonstration of how to emasculate the biting lyrics of a great song. Even the guy himself has lost interest in what he`s pretending to sing, so why should we care ?

Back on the subject of Calexico, this might be a rather obvious choice of Dylan covers, but for me it`s one that actually packs more of an emotional punch than the original. I love the broken-hearted way he sings "Gonna have some fun" - like he`s yearning for something that we know is going to end badly !

If the turtles had more ambient sound in their music, they'd look like every other hipster dive bar band going today.

My favourite is Guns n Roses cover of Knocking on Heavens Door, but I love The Byrds cover of Mr Tamberine man as well.
