UK Bands

What do you guys think of UK Bands?

right-track 07-01-2006 01:56 AM

They're quaint.
I think they are a passing fad and will slowly fade into obscurity.
There has been the odd decent British band, but nothing that leaps out and really grabs me.

Too provincial for my tastes.

Raine 07-01-2006 01:59 AM

First thing that comes to mind is Placebo. They rock

camble 07-01-2006 02:00 AM

How can UK bands be a 'passing fad' when they have been around since the beginning!

Just curious.

I was being deeply sarcastic.

Piss Me Off 07-01-2006 02:02 AM

Best bands in the world, no doubt.

Oh darn.
But he's pretty popular over in britain though. Or at least amongst the British people I know.
Could've sworn he was from the UK region though . . .

swim 07-01-2006 01:20 PM

Brian isn't really from anywhere. He moved a lot. He did go to school in London but the band formed when he went to school in Luxemburg.

Everyone knows I love UK music. It's my favorite.

Sound Devastation 07-01-2006 01:32 PM

UK has its fair share of good and bad from every genre, just like anywhere else.

i know alot about the British scene, living in the UK.. though very few of my favourite bands are british. Theres a slight lack of experimentalism but then theres also a lack of fans of experimental music.

UK bands are the best!!!

cant stand the rock bands from the US except for the killers and matchbox 20..

littleknowitall 12-12-2006 09:17 AM

Aye, alot of the newer british bands bore the **** out of me if im being perfectly honest.

Sound Devastation 12-12-2006 10:51 AM

if 'new' british bands bore you, you havent been looking hard enough. I said earlier in this thread that alot of my top favourite bands are american, but i like hundreds of bands, and most of the others are british.

the problem is that british bands never do as well. take a successful but underground american band.... Circle Takes the Square. If they were british, they'd be playing the back rooms of pubs and their album wouldn't even be released in the US, none of you would have ever of heard of them.

Seriously you need to look around a bit more if you think Britain never had experimental music. We were the home of the Psychedelic in the 1960s.You should go out there and purchase Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd.
Also, it may not be interesting to me or you but the whole rave scene was born in the UK. Which was higly experimental in every which way of the word.

Sound Devastation 12-13-2006 05:18 AM

i didnt say NEVER. and it of course it has experimental music.. alot of bands on SD are experimental.

what i said was there was a LACK, compared to the US.

and i can't stand pink floyd.

Alo 12-13-2006 08:24 AM

Yeah, let's be black and white. All the English bands are great. Every scene rocks, not one exception. How can someone give a decent opinion on something so general? ><'

Pink Floyd are average. Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd are excellent.

littleknowitall 12-14-2006 04:03 PM

Pink floyd - music for bank managers, that was my mates answer to why he hates them, and it tickled me. :)

Obviously you've never listened to Animals my boy.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-15-2006 09:15 AM

All this Pink Floyd stuff is all well & good but they`ve not been an experimental band for about 35 F*CKING YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday 12-15-2006 09:41 AM

Again, not commenting on the Pink Floyd of now. But the Syd Barrett days. Jeeeze.

Wow... This topic's gone off the deep end :/... BACK TO THE TOPIC!

UK Bands = Great music.

Period.

And I can't believe none of you mentioned Blur... :( They are my favorite.

LCMarie19 04-19-2007 11:37 AM

I love UK bands. I was in the UK for about 2-3 months, so I acquired a taste for them. I wasn't necessarily a fan, but once I was exposed to them, I began to really like them. Now that I'm back home, I'm online all the time finding out the latest info on the various bands. I'm a music junkie! :)

joyboyo53 07-02-2007 08:26 AM

what is up with the pink hate. grant it that syd barrets contributions were well taken and GOOD, are you disregarding the significance of 'the dark side of the moon' and 'the wall'. i know they had more, but those are 2 really standout albums. i would say 'dark side of the moon' is the best album that you can listen to from beginning to end without ever wanting to change a song or have the music stop.

Lost_At_22 07-03-2007 07:09 AM

For every one decent UK band there are at least 20 absolutely dreadful bands. But you can't argue with the longevity of The Who, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Black Sabbath etc.

=ladyface= 10-08-2007 03:56 PM

I've lived in the UK my whole life and I think we've got a lot of talent here. I listen to more artists from the UK than from anywhere else but I think that's got more to do with the levels of exposure I've had than an actual preference for 'our way of doing it'.

It's nice to have the general public considering our accents important in music at the moment.

harvey96 11-12-2007 08:49 AM

I used to like westlife. I generally prefer UK band than US. Just my weird preference.:nono:

vintage lace 12-02-2007 02:56 PM

The UK has produced a lot of influential bands… The Cure, Led Zeppelin, Joy Division, Queen, The Smiths, The Clash and the Stone Roses to name a few. The UK still have a lot of talent but I guess they probably won’t be as great as those mentioned.

Dizzys in the wolf 12-03-2007 09:46 AM

UK bands are vital, the whole Scottish indie scene on its own is vital.

infusician 01-02-2008 02:09 PM

Love UK bands! I think their music is more about the music and not about the artist's diva life. My two cents!

Seltzer 01-02-2008 05:22 PM

The UK has put out many many good bands. Currently, they have a pretty good doom metal scene.

I used to be obsessed with UK indie rock bands...I think I just really loved the british accent to be truthfull
