You know thinking about it I think the UK has amazing folk, possibly even better than US (and no doubt about that in recent years.) Even from the start they were pushing out much more creative artists like Nick Drake and Vashti Bunyan while people were still crying over Dylan going electric on this side of the pond and in recent years you have people like Patrick Wolf making some of the most innovative folk ever, plus you have some indie-folk bands like the Decemberists writing songs inspired by the UK like "Shankill Butchers" for instance.

I figured it was common sense. America has a quite vivid indie-folk scene from the southern rootsy sounds of Iron & Wine to the chill Pacific Northwest sounds of The Shins and Poppiness of Page France. Secondly folk wouldn't even be half as popular as it is if it wasn't for Woody Guthrie. It was a dying sound and revived interest. While Dylan was on his decline Paxton, Ramblin Jack Elliott, Seeger and countless of others were still making great music. Dylan is probably one America's most boring song-writers. Who cares about him? Vashti's voice is completely grating. To the point where it's unlistenable and that's pretty hard to do in folk. You really don't know as much as you think, buddy.

Frank Turner does american folk better than most yankees. Oh and without Vashti Animal Collective, Devendra Banhart all that psych-folk wouldn't exist. Show some respect. Patrick Wolf has shown more folk innovativeness as well as versatility on one album than America has...well ever.
