I'm not an Enya fan but Maire Brennan is yum even at her age. I'm jealous Ask her if we will ever see a new Clannad album.

Some of you may recognise the lead singer, Glen Hansard, from the film Once. He also released an album with the film's co-star, Marketa Irglova, called The Swell Season.

The 70's stuff is true Irish Folk music, so if that is what you are looking for, then have at it. The 80's brought out a more lush sound. They are the sister and brother of Enya, as well as two cousins (?). Another one I have recently discovered is IONA. They have some Brits in the band, including the former bass player for KajaGooGoo, and old 80's band.

Flogging Molly

And to all the people hating on Irish music, you probably have some Irish in ya, so don't hate on your own culture

Edit: I know they're not from Ireland, but they are Irish in terms of their heritage and style of play. The Dubliners is a good one, too.

Flogging Molly was one of the best shows Ive ever seen. The vibe was perfect. Plenty of extreme rowdiness, but on fights at all.

did anyone say Pogues or Dropkick? I know Dropkick is US, but whatever.

Does Average White Band Count? Oh ****, they're Scottish, that's right!

Something like 36% of the population of Manchester are of Irish descent.
There are countless Irish bars dotted about town where you can go and listen to traditional Irish folk music.
None of the plastic Paddy stuff either.

Irish folk music should be better represented in this thread.
This is my favourite trad. Irish ballad and it never fails to quieten a pub.
