Just learned how to play "black diamond bay" and I must say I really love that chord progression, and the song of course. It's such a basic chord progression but he gets so much out of it. It's one of those Dylan songs that can be kind of difficult to sing. You're playing along, getting into the feel of the song, then he throws this line in that doesn't fit with the groove of the song. Then you realize that he just stays on that certain chord for a few more beats. Simple trick but it's pretty cool. Sorta free form, if you catch my drift.
Yeah, I don`t usually have problems with depressing songs either; I guess I should play Time Out Of Mind again, but from what I remember, some of the songs are both depressing and predictable. Rather like Death Is Not The End from Down In The Groove; you only have to hear a couple of lines and you know what you are in store for !
My favourite moment from Time Out Of Mind ? This line: I been to Sugar Town an` I shook the sugar down Well done, Bob

As a non-musician, I was very interested to hear about Desire. I need to go back to both those songs you mention and pay a bit more attention to the details. Thanks.

In a blatant attempt to rig votes and hi-jack a thread, I`d like to invite anyone reading this to vote for Bob in this poll :-

That way, the Tempest album will get a thread of its own, in which we can thrash out its merits and failings, and the FAIR album club will become the hottest thread on MB !
