My favourite moment from Time Out Of Mind ? This line: I been to Sugar Town an` I shook the sugar down Well done, Bob As a non-musician, I was very interested to hear about Desire. I need to go back to both those songs you mention and pay a bit more attention to the details. Thanks. In a blatant attempt to rig votes and hi-jack a thread, I`d like to invite anyone reading this to vote for Bob in this poll :- http://www.musicbanter.com/country-f...sept-30-a.html That way, the Tempest album will get a thread of its own, in which we can thrash out its merits and failings, and the FAIR album club will become the hottest thread on MB !

I would highly recommend Desire to everyone. You have songs like "Isis" that just make bob out to be this total outlaw bad ass, then there's "oh sister" which is a really touching song. "Mozambique" was one I didn't like at first but it's poppy qualities caused it to stick in my head and become kind of fond of it. "One more cup of coffee" just has this real desolate feeling about it, almost kind of creepy. That violin playing definitely can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, that killer opening bassline, bobs pounding of the chords and of course his vocal performance in that song - it really demonstrates that he had a pretty good voice.

Probably. Maybe it's only grating because Joey is my name. I'll give Desire another try and see if I just had a poor experience. Another reason why I've only listened to the second half a few times is that it's a pretty damn long album. By the time I get through the first side I usually am ready to change the record! But if the second side songs grow on me I doubt that'll be much of a problem.
I got a physical copy of New Morning today for a few bucks. Always an enjoyable album. I'm debating whether I consider Self-Portrait interesting enough to buy a copy of and I'd still like to pick up a copy of Blood on the Tracks...so much to buy. I faintly remember Sara, but none of the others. |

Blonde on Blonde, Highway 61 and The Times They Are a-Changin' are all great albums. I love almost all his stuff, but those ones really stick out for me.

Listened to half of Down in the Groove. Unless somebody says there is a hidden gem in the second half of the album, that's enough for me. I want to get to Oh Mercy and beyond.
I have been listening to the Bob Dylan self-titled album a bit more, though, and that's enjoyable. I was put off by the lack of originals at first but it's a nice listen regardless. Almost sad that Dylan have another album more like it before Freewheelin...but I guess that's what bootlegs/the bootleg series are for. On a side-note, I found a copy of Dylan's Chronicles, Vol 1 book at the thrift store so I picked it up. |
