Empire Burlesque was not a fun listen for me. The songs seemed...okay...I guess, but that slick production hurt. Cut deep into my soul...in a bad way! Bob's voice just doesn't work with it in my opinion.

Next I'll listen to Knocked Out Loaded.

Empire Burlesque was a notoriously bad album. His label wanted to make him more 80's accessible...and a slickly produced Bob Dylan just does not work at all.

Ya it's definitely one to pass on. Of his 80s albums I would recommend shot of love, infidels and mos of all, oh mercy.

i just heard Down in the Groove and have to say it undeservedly gets bad rep

not one of his best, certainly not even good, but pretty inoffensive and an okay listen

What's the word on World Gone Wrong? I heard the track "blood in my eyes" and was really impressed. There was some nice guitar playing in it, even a little bit of lead playing that was good.

If I'm not mistaken I think the album is nothing but traditional songs performed by only Bob with no backing musicians.

it's too similar to "Good as I've Been to You" and also less stellar

that's because "Good" has a better selection of songs, and the songs are recognisable because they're kinda familiar trad folkie-stuff

"World" tends to get a bit repetitive and half the songs I haven't heard before

the liner notes are classy, though, going right to the marrow of Americana and they're all depictions of the songs from Dylan's own perspective

We listened to "Masters of War" in class today, and almost everyone started laughing. I just sat there, feeling more and more uncomfortable.
"Hey... hey, guys... can you please... uh... I... I actually like this music."

Why did they laugh? The voice? I'm sure you could have put on "moves like jagger" and they would have been happy.

Yep, that's probably why.
And it's annoying me that if it's not their usual party-rap, they just label it as "WEIRD AND UNINTERESTING" without even trying to listen.
