I had an disageement with an examiner after he commented on my breath control. I had been playing Cannonball Adderley to a backing track for 30 minutes - no other solos apart from my sax so blowing pretty much non-stop apart from short breaks to change backing track and maybe 20 seconds into.
he said I should not have breath control issues, and that classical clarinet players play for much longer than 30 minutes without any problems. Now I have searched the classical clarinet pieces and nowhere can I find a piece that is longer than 27 minutes, and of course they do not involve constant blowing. So - big question - is there a classical piece for clarinet that exceeds 27 minutes? |
