Answer these series of questions that are in the OP not the thread title. Every new person comes in and says "how is it not?"
Without realizing the context in which she posed the question. In comparison with today's music (pop, rock, metal, electronica, etc). Does classical music still have a place amongst today's audience, or has it been relegated to more specific listeners (i.e. music students, people learning instruments, elderly people)? WHY or WHY NOT?

One time my friend tried to claim that since "the only people who listen to classical are those who play it", it is no longer relevant or even exists anymore. Much the same, he went on to say, as "caveman music".

Um, work on yours? I don't see anything about top 40 in here.

What do you think today's music means? Top 40, the popular stuff, by today's standards. Mainstream radio.

I guess that's the discussion she wanted to have.

"What do you think today's music means?" It means music that touches upon the innovations and themes significant to the people alive today. You could say Top 40 definitely fits here, yet most of it doesn't age well and ends up being forgotten later on. Personally, the music of today will push the music of tomorrow. It's a link in the progression of art. As for classical music, it is, clearly, still relevant. It continues to move people emotionally and make them think — whether it's Bach or Kodaly. I'm sorry if this is lazy, but watch this if you're still doubtful. This man explains this in both a hilarious and elegant way. Quote:
