Pluto isn't technically classified as a planet anymore. I'm resisting the urge to post Mr. DeMaio's interpretation this.
Personally, I always play the Full Suite whenever I listen to Holtz. So I'm in the camp of the-whole-is-greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts. My husband's favorite is Jupiter, which he is convinced is actually about sexual foreplay |

To be fair old man, this is called your favorite planet. I literally thought I was posting in the lounge. :P
ooo or is this a thread about the actual frequencies planets make in which case I still vote earth because it's the most homey sounding.

So, were I to rate every movement of the suite (the greatest difficulty of which would be that something would have to be rated last, every movement is absolutely outstanding IMO) I guess it would be as follows:
1. Neptune with it's feeling of vast remote distance and the eerie haunting choir 2. Venus, lilting beauty 3. Ancient Saturn 4. Grand Jupiter 5. Mercury, darting and fleeting 6. Uranus, truly magical 7. Mars, only last due to it's uber-familiarity but a truly terrifying piece Someday I hope to experience this great piece in a concert hall, definitely a bucket-list wish of mine. |
