Question string recommendations

one of my passions is strings. any kind (violin, viola etc).
yet i don't like full-on concertos, so i wanted to pick your brains for your favorite non-classical string artists (original material. post 20th century).

thoughts?

The best strings in my experience are Elixer or D'Addario.
