This too! Yet to find anything by this guy that isn't particularly astounding in some way.

Yes, Chopin and Rachmaninov definitely!

Beethoven is by far my favorite composer. Yes his early work is considered in the Classical period, but his later works are clearly Romantic and he is considered to be one of the founders of the period. Some of his last works weren't even fully appreciated until the twentieth century.

This is one of my favorites by him:

Franz Liszt also has some insanely virtuosic compositions for piano:

I would look at Beethoven as a classicist, I don't think there is any guarantee he would have liked the works of Liszt for example. Some people appreciated his last works at the time but they divided opinion.

^I agree that he may have not liked Liszt or other later Romantic period composers, but he opened the door for them by stretching or breaking down so many of the "rules" early on. And I think it's a valid statement to say that some his last works were incredibly ahead of their time.

Elton John, all the way......................

My five favourite composers are the same

Chopin
Rachmaninov
Boris Tchaikovsky
Shostakovich and
Beethoven

Boris Tchaikovsky's Piano concerto is weird and wonderful. It's the first classical CD I bought and the second movement is sublime. Id post a link but its not on youtube. I love Shostakovich's first piano concerto, Beethoven's fourth, both of Chopin's and of course Rachmaninov's second.
