I dig the classic.

I've never really come across any composers that create a 'dark' atmosphere. I want some of that. Like the doom metal of classical music.

Atmospheric, dark, low, deep, heavy, whatever.

Luminescent Orchestrii - I think these guys are pretty interesting. Sort of a Classical/Folk/Punk hybrid (and I wasn't exactly sure where to post this) with a pretty heavy Middle Eastern influence. I really enjoyed Neptune's Daughter.

Oh, and I was wondering if somebody could help me get into "modern classical music."

It's downright shameful that I'm not well informed there considering how much I listen to classical music.

I realize this is an overwhelmingly broad request. Just a laundry list of composers I need to check out that aren't the greats everybody knows about would be great

Looking into:

Debussy(for some reason I put it off this long)
Clementi

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
Al Pacino = God

I don't know much about Clementi, but here's some Debussy stuff. Of course, I love his music because there are beautiful flute parts. Some of it you may have already heard of, like Claire de Lune (which Twilight swiftly ruined for me). But I think these pieces are absolutely beautiful:

Prelude à l'après-midi d'un faune:

Syrinx - for solo flute. Debussy only wrote two pieces for solo flute and this is one of them. I tried to play this once and it was an absolute disaster

Valse Romantique:

La fille aux cheveux de lin:

The Nocturnes:

Nuages:

Fêtes:

Sirènes:

Those are my personal choices from Debussy's extensive catalogue. If you go on YouTube and look him up, you'll find all kinds of stuff

Any suggestions for Vivaldi (aside from The Four Seasons)?

Check out his concertos for flute. Here is my personal favourite, and one that I'm currently learning:

Flute Concerto in D Major, RV 428

Just thought I'd share a few pieces I've been listening to a lot lately, hopefully I can spread the enjoyment around.

Just posted this one in the thread I made for Ludovico Einaudi, but I'm posting it again so no one misses it. :P

Found this through an amazing film called Mary and Max, it was used as the theme and it completely blew me away. I listen to it when I need a mood boost.

This one's also from a film, though I haven't seen it. A friend put this on a mix and now I'm afraid to watch the movie because I'm afraid it will ruin the song for me .
