any other composer similar to Aaron Copland?
i love 'im |
I dig the classic.
I've never really come across any composers that create a 'dark' atmosphere. I want some of that. Like the doom metal of classical music. Atmospheric, dark, low, deep, heavy, whatever. |
Luminescent Orchestrii - I think these guys are pretty interesting. Sort of a Classical/Folk/Punk hybrid (and I wasn't exactly sure where to post this) with a pretty heavy Middle Eastern influence. I really enjoyed Neptune's Daughter.

Gypsy punk is great.

^^One of my friends in Croatia really likes these guys. I still have their name written down somewhere and never checked them out. Thanks for the reminder xD

Oh, and I was wondering if somebody could help me get into "modern classical music."
It's downright shameful that I'm not well informed there considering how much I listen to classical music. I realize this is an overwhelmingly broad request. Just a laundry list of composers I need to check out that aren't the greats everybody knows about would be great :) |
Looking into:
Debussy(for some reason I put it off this long) Clementi |
Quote:
Prelude à l'après-midi d'un faune: Syrinx - for solo flute. Debussy only wrote two pieces for solo flute and this is one of them. I tried to play this once and it was an absolute disaster :( Valse Romantique: La fille aux cheveux de lin: The Nocturnes: Nuages: Fêtes: Sirènes: Those are my personal choices from Debussy's extensive catalogue. If you go on YouTube and look him up, you'll find all kinds of stuff :) |
I've got this one down for Burning Down from our shared love of Scott Joplin:
One aspect I've been increasingly interested in is ragtime on the guitar, which I'm hoping doesn't sound too obvious or cheesy: Giovanni De Chiaro: Plays Joplin's work beautifully in a way that fills the listener with warmth. If you like ragtime on the guitar, one of the best people to check out is Blind Blake, who started his work about a decade after Joplin, but still very similar. |
Don't know much about classical, but I have a composition for violin from Paganini, concerto#1, and that to me is amazing music. I can't play violin but I know just about every notes by heart. It stick with that one.
