A theory on classical music from a Rock Music fan

yea, u see the thread title and immediatly expect the insults to fly at the classical genre from all angles. Well sorry folks but the sh*t hasnt quite hit the fan yet.

see i admit, i aint the biggest classical music fan. yea, i kno beethoven, bach... the buroch period (if thats how you spell it), so not much really. but every form of music has its place in society and rather than belittle classical music i have to admit that without it we wouldnt have rock, pop or even blues. im only 17 so perhaps dont appreciate it enough but classical started it all.

Thrice 11-12-2004 12:16 PM

What was the point of this thread?

blackTshirt 11-13-2004 02:30 AM

It's Baroque

Its Baroque btw. It does take a bit of an ear and understanding of theory to truly apreciate the music you have deamed "clasical." Actualy there are several periods you have just lumped together, which include but are not limited to Baroque, classical, Renesaunce, and modern ( Stuff built entirly off of chromatic scales in many cases if memory serves correct.) Just for fun the next time you listen to Muse (absolution album) pay close atention to the "clasical" conventions that are so prevelent throughout the compasitions. Another Album to check out would be Vinne Moore "The Maze" or "Minds Eye" www.vinniemoore.com

I Probobly should have just said this, thanks for having the brains and balls to come out and admit. Rock on

AmyLeeFan 12-22-2004 09:52 PM

And I thought rock lovers were crazy......

Enfilade 01-27-2005 07:21 PM

Me and My Friends spent the afternoon listening to a classical compilation CD, certain songs made me think of english women having tea and they kind of pissed me off but the majority of they songs on it were excellent. I tip my baseball cap to the curly powdered wigs of the classical composers of olde.

masterofpuppets 01-27-2005 08:01 PM

Some classical music is good. It's ignorance not to be able to appreciate good classical music.

dirt mcgirt 01-27-2005 08:57 PM

yo, that sh*t is tight son. if claude debussy was around today hed be tha illest mothaf*cka in town, packin mad heat an layin down tha sickest beatz. check out his 24 preludes yo, hella ganxta. of course with tha new tecnologie we got 36 chamberz now instead o 24, but sheeyit son.

dog 02-02-2005 05:19 AM

no, you could merely not find it as your taste of music. It is in NO WAY ignorance. Thats like saying its ignorance not to like a good football match.

I said its ignorant not to appreciate classical music for what good classical music is. I never said it was ignorant not to like it. Have some.

silvermoon 02-13-2005 04:04 PM

I agree and a true music lover I believe loves all kinds of music there are days I would rather listen to classical music and do so. I once belonged to bmg music club ordering only classical cd's not educated in the genre or style of music however I do like it now and then. When I think of some rockers liking classical they may like trans siberia orchestra because the lead singer of the metal group savatage is in tso. Nothing wrong with classical music. its good now and then. :drummer:

you have to at least appreciate what classical music has spawned, it started everything, without its likely none of the bands we listen to today would exist (im talking about the classic classical music, 16th, 17th, 18th century etc)

Tommyrocker 02-24-2005 12:15 PM

i thought that was baroque. Well, perchance but thats not my arguement

baroque is a period in classical music, as are periods such as the renaissance, modernism, early and late romantic etc- all in some way have influenced what we've heard for the last 50 years..(nan likes classical music)

If youre getting to the point that you dont even understand what you mean anymore, perhaps you should consider taking the pills the doc gave you all those years ago? Or mebbe its just a lost cause now...

Classical is good..dig it..do it..breath it..feel it..

Let's see, it was 4:52 AM when I posted that, maybe that has something to do with it. Just a guess, though.

Yes, it did sound like an orbit gum commercial.

this is an example of what listening to too much rap can do to you

Merkaba 12-11-2005 01:41 AM

kashmir man, just leave others alone. I wish I knew what you've been listening to because it seems to make you a pain in the arse.

Dirt is unique, and while he talks gangsta, at least he isn't like you or many others who go around starting brawls for no reason. His 250 odd posts have been decent and though his metaphors are strange to say the least, he doesn't say anything that puts rap into disrepute. So drop it, capiche.

Classical music is intense. Literally intense. I don't personally listen to it but I've heard some Mozart and Chopin and Beethoven, it was all so amazingly intense and well done. The accuracy in classical music is second to none.

Kashmir86 12-11-2005 08:42 PM

I forget the composer of the name but it's the song at the beginning of the jackass movie, its awesome, very intense.

The music I listen to doesnt require it's own language and made up words, like rap does. That was the point i was shooting at

half_baked87 12-11-2005 10:57 PM

what about "groovy"? thats a made up word. rap doesnt require it either, listen to atmosphere, eyedea and abilities, blueprint... its a goddamn dialect. besides itd be pretty boring if everyone spoke proper english. but back to the subject, classical music is brilliant, and i have enourmous respect for handel, bach, beethoven and all those geezers. i just cant see myself sitting down and listening to it.

pastor of muppets 12-11-2005 11:04 PM

for peoples info:

15-16th century - renaissance
monteverdi, byrd

17th century - baroque
vivaldi, bach, handel

early 18th century - classical
beethoven, mozart, haydn

late 18th century - early romantic

Kashmir86 12-11-2005 11:17 PM

that's not made up, it means having groove. (groove is to groovey as spice is to spicey) What about:
-illest
-phat
-crunk
-flossin (it has nothing to do with dental floss)
-Dawg or Dogg
-Fitty (fifty is too much to say, gotta remove the f)
-ATL
-H-town
-Ballin'/ baller
-Blades (how does this word have anything to do with rims?)
-Bling
-Bust a cap
-Emcee
-Fo shizzle
-G
-Heater (not referring to something that keeps you warm)
-Holla
-Hops
-Ice (as in yo g, that bling is iced out nigga)
-Indo
-Jiggy
-MC
-Mack
-Nappy
-Pimp(can be used as an adjective for anything)
-Shortty (or shotty if the r is too much work to pronounciate)
-Tight(in the same boat as pimp)
-True dat
-word up

Need I say more? They live in the usa, why cant the use english like the rest of us? Your one ****ty example that doesnt even count is pathetic compared to this.

boo boo 12-12-2005 08:13 AM

I love classical music, i think im gonna make a thread about my favorite classical composer, Simple Plan.

you're a ****ing fascist, need i say more. pull you're head out of you're whitebred redneck ass and realize there are different cultures and different dialects of english exist. do we say "bloody" "bollocks" and "cheerio!" (stereotypes i know) over here? no. because we have our own dialect, and it so happens so do some african americans and other minorities, and even a few honkys. i can still understand what their saying. besides, if it offends you so much, just dont listen to it.

i don't listen to it, and for that i get condemned. Well to a certain extent I do because it seems to be the only type of music you hear blaring from the ****ty stereo in some teenagers mommies car. Led zeppelin wrote 100+ songs without using bloody, bollock or cheerio, or any other english words liek that in their songs. Pink Floyd wrote well in excess of 100 songs using nothing but the english language. Both bands being british of course. Bob dylan has released 50 albums all of which contain the english language, yet it is rare to find 1 single modern rap song without at least one of these made up words in it. Also, what is the fascination with rims? All the above artists and many others wrote thousands upon thousands of songs in the past without one mention of rims, and yet it is the most popular subject of modern rap. Take away the subject of rims and hoes, and there would hardly be such thing as rap anymore. It is so much more amazing what 1 man, bob dylan could do with just a guitar, a harmonica, and his voice. He didnt need a dj and tons of people sittin behind computers droppin the beatz for him. It blows away rap. I would like to hear a rap instrumental too, that would be the most boring, lame, retarded thing ever. Music has always been played with instruments for centuries, not drum machines and computer made sounds, its pathetic. And why shouldn't I hate rap?

Was this an attempt to have us think you have eclectic tastes and and educated and openminded?

That opening "prargraph" is so smug and self-serving.

hate rap if you want to, but realize people have different dialects and get over it. i'm not a fan of mainstream rap either for a lot of the same reasons, all they talk about is bitches hoes and bling. but underground hip-hop has some of the best lyricists i've ever heard, and if they use a little slang, so ****in what? mainstream rap is complete garbage, i do agree with you there. and a rap instrumental? its a lyrical based kind of music, not instrumental. thats why you don't see any. (if there is any, my apologies before i get skooled by someone)
