Gilbert & Sullivan
Question for those who like Gilbert and Sullivan. What's your favorite operetta?
Mine are Patience and Pinafore! Their Act I finales are so loud and exciting! |
I've only heard two or three of their operas, which were cool from what I can remember. So you'd recommend Patience and Pinfore?

Patience, unfortunately, is dated. It deals with the Aesthetic Poetry movement of the 1870's. In our production at MIT, we essential made them gothic. It worked really well. |

Thanks for the rec, I'll see what I can find as regards Pinafore :) |
I would have to say "The Pirates of Penzance"

I'm bumping this thread, complying with the dictates of this game :- http://www.musicbanter.com/games-lis...litz-game.html
..and because we don't have one yet, I thought I'd put a clip of some G & S song; one each from the operettas that I'm vaguely familiar with, The Mikado and Pirates of Penzance:- ^ This is from a stage production by Jonathan Miller in which he seems to have re-located the show from China to England. The highlight of this short and ridiculously cheerful song must surely be the line, "Three little maids who all unwary come from a ladies seminary." ^ And here's the best known song from a film version of "Pirates," with a line slipped in about the Beatles. Wow, that really makes it so much more topical and relevant to today's tastes, doesn't it? |
It sounds stupid until the executioner comes out then it’s a precursor to early Peter Gabriel. |
