Question Taking a break, is it ok?

I need some information about the most famous composers. Did any of the greats ever take a break from composing and/or playing. If anyone knows, who where they and how long was the breaks. Your help will help me in my debate with my husband. I feel that a short break from lessons will improve my sons interest in playing. Although he will not stop playing he will discontinue lessons for three months until after the holidays. He has a lot going on in his life and I feel a short break will only be benefical to him. My husband thinks it will set him back and adversely affect his playing. He feels that three months is way too long and that only a month is ok but not necessary. My husband thinks that none of the greats never took a break. My son plays guitar on a daily bases and its a big part of his life, so he will not be quiting. He plays for enjoyment not to be one of the "greats".
Many thanks in advance.
